Center of Tucson opened its doors! Looking for a place to practice your art

C.A.S.T. Clean and Sober Theatre looking for young people to tell their
personal stories C.A.S.T. is looking for young people to tell their personal stories with
this dynamic theatre troupe for the 2008-2009 season. C.A.S.T. is composed
of young people between the ages of 13 and 23 whose lives have been impacted
by addiction. They undergo intensive training to gain insight into the
pressures affecting their addiction and recovery, help create a script, and
then take the stage to reveal the progression of the disease, the impact on
family members and the challenges of recovery. C.A.S.T. performs at high
schools, middle schools, elementary schools, treatment centers, and
conferences, educating young people, families, and the professionals that
serve them, on issues regarding drug and alcohol use and addictive disease.
Cast members rehearse12-16 hours per week & perform 1-3 shows per week
during the school year. Cast members are paid for performances and

Library of Congress Announces Pilot Training Program for Indigenous
Communities
The American Folklife Center (AFC) at the Library of Congress announces a
new pilot program that will train members of indigenous communities to
document their own cultural traditions, archive this heritage for future
generations, and undertake the task of protecting their intellectual
property rights to these recordings and the traditions they document. The
project is a collaboration among the AFC, the Center for Documentary Studies
(CDS) at Duke University in North Carolina, and the World Intellectual
Property Organization (WIPO) based in Geneva, Switzerland.

initiative to acquaint Americans with the best of their cultural and

The first IGNITE TUCSON is being organized for late July 2008
What if you had an innovative topic to talk about and you had 5 minutes to
talk about it in front of an audience. To make your talk more visual, what
if you had selected 20 images beforehand, running 15 seconds on a timer
projected on a big screen behind you? What would you say? Where would you
take your audience? This is the premise of "IGNITE TUCSON". The first IGNITE
TUCSON is being organized for late July 2008 at the Screening Room, 127 E.
Congress, Downtown Tucson. Presentations must: Be no longer than 5 minutes.
Be on an innovative topic. Be on a CD or DVD ready to run on a Macintosh.
The setting includes a reception of beer, wine, and light foods during,

Call to Artists: Exhibition Opportunity: SMALL FRAMES exhibit
Dinnerware Artspace is calling work for the big ideas SMALL FRAMES exhibit.
Small frames aims to exhibit new works that are large in content but in a
smaller package. Open to all artists. Submit work via email attachments, or
stop by Dinnerware with a CD of images, 264 E. Congress. Artwork can be any
medium including sculpture, ceramics, or video, with a maximum size of 14"
by 16" not including frame or pedestal. Jurying will be conducted by
Dinnerware staff. This is a fundraising exhibit. All work must be for sale.
Artists receive 50% of retail sales. 50% supports Dinnerware Artspace
staffing and programming. All selected works to remain on exhibit for the
duration of the show. Email up to 3 images, including a list with titles,

Flamenco del Pueblo Viejo and Casa Vicente present DOMINGO FLAMENCO!
DOMINGO FLAMENCO! Flamenco is the culture and history of the Spanish Gypsies exhibited through their ever-evolving music, song, and dance. Arizona Theatre Company accepting HS applicants for Summer On Stage Program
Up to forty high-school students have the opportunity to learn from theatre
professionals and perform on Arizona Theatre Company’s stage with Summer on
Stage 2008. Summer on Stage is an intensive five-week theatre program where
participants learn a variety of acting techniques including character
development, voice for the actor, scene and monologue study, movement and
dance. Students are educated through classroom work, and an intensive
rehearsal process leads to two fully mounted productions performed at the
Temple of Music and Art. Classes are June 30 - August 2, 2008. Early
Registration is $575 and the deadline is MAY 1. Regular Registration is $625
